It is time for another update from life here at Kadnook.
The talking point with many of us has been the very dry winter. Here at Westbury to the end of September this area is 116 mls of rain below the yearly average to date. In October the long-term average for that month is 78 mls, this October has seen 106 mls of rain fall. No wonder I am mowing grass nearly every day, the cattle are enjoying the clippings.
‘Frankie’ – 18 months.
I mentioned in my previous news that ‘Bruna’ – Kadnook Princess Bruna was to become part of Kadnook’s breeding program. Bruna blessed the kennel with five lovely pups in April, three males and two females. The males were all black in colour and the females yellow.
Bruna did a splendid job as a first-time mum fussing over them and keeping them clean and well fed. From the litter I kept a yellow female who I have named ‘Enya’ – Kadnook Echoes In Rain. You guessed it, after the lovely Irish singer Enya, I very much like her music.
‘Enya’ – 18 weeks old.
I’m proud to report that Kadnook Cut The Chase ‘Chase’ has completed her Tracking Grand Champion title. Her owner Maude Ashman is very proud of her, as I am. I understand ‘Chase’ will now resume her obedience work to further her Companion Dog Excellent title she has previously been awarded. ’Chase’ is from the Zac/Flick litter.
I have been doing a little retriever training with the dogs. Now that warmer weather is ahead of us, I will concentrate on water work with them. ‘Cass’ has matured up into a lovely dog, he is a real copy of his father ‘Danny’, both being soft in temperament along with being truly lovely dogs to live with. ‘Charm’, Cass’s mother, well she is still full of beans with that lets do it approach. Love that type of dog. ‘Enya’ certainly loves retrieving, puts a full-hearted effort into her work, is very trainable to date with lots of energy to spare.
‘Chops’ – Kadnook Wild Dream had his 12th birthday recently, still running around like a dog half his age. It was great to receive a couple of phone calls and photos from people who have his littermates, all doing well, healthy happy dogs.
CHOPS – 12 years 12 days old. A few grey hairs on his face and holding onto his winter coat. Lovely lad.
This year I have followed the local football more than previous. The reason being, two of my nephews have played for Moe in the Gippsland League. Leigh, is the playing coach of the seniors and his brother Myles. Leigh plays in the forward line, Myles in many different positions depending on who they were playing, and player availability. Myles had a great season winning the Clubs Seniors Best & Fairest award, he was also picked in the League’s Top Team of players.
Moe started the season off well being on the top of the ladder for more than half the season, but faded to finish third overall due to player injuries and availability. A good building season towards 2026.
Until next time, good health and happiness to you all.
Wayne.
